Green Monster Smoothie

Breakfast or snack ยท Serves 1 grown-up and 2 little ones ยท 5 minutes
Green drinks can look a bit scary to a three-year-old.
Unless it's a monster drink.
Then it's the best thing they've ever seen! Give it a silly name, pop it in their favourite cup, and let them watch the colour change in the blender. It's a little bit of magic before nursery.
You Will Need
- 1 handful of baby spinach (about 20 g)
- 1 ripe banana (frozen in chunks makes it extra thick and cold)
- 100 g frozen mango chunks
- 150 g plain yoghurt
- 150 ml milk (cow's milk, or any milk your family uses)
- 1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter or tahini (optional, for staying power)
Let's Make It
- Put the milk and yoghurt into the blender first. It helps everything blend.
- Add the spinach, banana, mango and peanut butter or tahini.
- Blend for 1 minute until there are no green flecks left.
- Taste. Too thick? Add a splash more milk. Too thin? Add a few more mango chunks.
- Pour into cups and serve straight away.
Monster faces: draw two googly eyes on a clear cup with a washable marker before you pour. Your little one will be delighted.
Leftovers: pour into ice lolly moulds for a cool snack on a warm UAE afternoon.
Little Hands Can Help ๐
- Count the mango chunks into the blender. "One, two, three..."
- Pour the milk from a small jug. Spills are part of it.
- Choose the cup and give the monster its name.
Safety Note for Under-3s โ ๏ธ
- Offer it in an open cup or a straw cup, sitting down. It's a great way to practise open-cup drinking.
- Under 1s: a few sips is plenty, and use their usual milk. Cow's milk as a main drink waits until after their first birthday, but a little in cooking or a smoothie is fine.
- Never add honey for babies under 1.
- Peanut butter and tahini are common allergens. Only include them once your child has already had them safely.
