Boomerang Parent and Child Classes
A parent-and-child educational programme for families with children aged 0 to 3, created by Principal Lisa.
A curriculum for the child. An education for the parent. A community for the school. And a marketing campaign that keeps the conversation going.
What Is Boomerang?
Boomerang is a fully developed parent-and-child educational programme for families with children from birth to three. It is not simply a lovely class for parents and young children to attend. It has its own philosophy, its own written curriculum and its own methodology, and it is ready to be picked up and delivered within a school or nursery.
Rather than offering childcare, Boomerang places parents and children together in a carefully designed learning environment, where relationships, confidence, independence and school capability are nurtured through purposeful play and expert guidance.
The sessions are inspired by Hygge, Steiner, Montessori and Magda Gerber's RIEĀ® (Resources for Infant Educarers), combining structured early-years learning with a calm, respectful environment.
A curriculum for the child. An education for the parent. A community for the school. And a marketing campaign that keeps the conversation going.
Why We Call It Boomerang
A boomerang is known for returning to the person who launched it.
When we let our children venture out into the wider world of school life, we want them to know they can always come back to us when they need to: in moments of uncertainty, discomfort or worry, all perfectly normal feelings when stepping into unfamiliar territory.
Boomerang sessions give children the opportunity to venture out, explore, experience school-like environments and practise new routines beyond the comfort of home, before confidently "boomeranging" back to their parent whenever they need reassurance. This gentle cycle of exploring, returning and trying again builds confidence, resilience and independence at each child's own pace.
And secondly, just like a boomerang, families always come back. Parents and children can't wait to return, week after week.
Children do not become confident because we leave them. They become confident because they know they have a safe place to return to.
A Curriculum for the Child
Boomerang is not an improvised collection of activities. Every session is built on a written curriculum that identifies the experiences, emerging capabilities, habits and skills we are looking to support. It is underpinned by my Six Pillars of School Capability™:
- Physical Capability: can I look after my own body? Washing hands, dressing, opening a lunchbox, carrying my own belongings, managing the toilet.
- Emotional Capability: can I wait, cope with disappointment, recover after a mistake, separate from my parent and persevere?
- Social Capability: can I belong in a group? Sharing, taking turns, lining up, joining play and building friendships.
- Communication Capability: can I ask for help, explain how I feel, ask to join in and solve simple conflicts using words?
- Independent Learning Capability: can I tidy away, follow simple instructions and complete everyday routines?
- Family Capability: how do home and school work together, with shared expectations, routines and confidence-building at home?
An Education for the Parent
There is also a curriculum for the parent. Parents are not simply sitting beside their child during a class. They are learning what to observe, when to intervene and when to wait, how to recognise emerging capability, and how to understand their child's play, movement, communication and behaviour, using principles drawn from RIE® (Resources for Infant Educarers).
The adult is learning alongside the child.
Boomerang is not a playdate where adults hover, nor a social coffee morning where the focus is lost. Parents agree to the approach before they come. They are guided to notice learning schemas and to understand how to support development at home, including practical strategies such as teaching toddlers how to share, a genuine game changer in early social development.
We help parents reframe behaviour that is often labelled as naughty, understanding repetition in play as curiosity, not defiance.
What Happens in a Session
Sessions run once a week, built around observation and repeated anchors, so that learning patterns can develop and deepen. Each session has its own lesson plan, and each child's progress and needs are catered for.
- Home-style play, where children explore and return to their parent as a secure base
- Open-ended play with live parent coaching
- Songs and stories that build targeted skills and confidence
- Repeated rituals, a sharing circle and a peace table for emotional regulation
- A shared family meal, where children practise setting the table and serving themselves and others
- Weekly parenting tips, resources and WhatsApp support
The environment is intentionally calm, with soft lighting, classical music, child-sized tables and carefully chosen, uncluttered resources. Each child can also keep a Reggio Emilia-inspired learning journal, so parent and child can reflect on their progress together.
Why the Approach Works
- Capability rather than readiness: we build the skills children need, rather than waiting for them to be "ready".
- Parent education through observing and understanding their own child.
- RIE® (Resources for Infant Educarers) and observation.
- Independence and practical life skills.
- Communication, movement, curiosity and concentration.
- Belonging and participation.
- Habits that support children as they move towards nursery and school.
- Taking learning home: what happens in the session carries on in everyday family life.
Early brain development is optimised when children feel safe and secure. Boomerang lets that emotional foundation grow alongside their primary caregiver, before they transition on their own.
The Impact of Boomerang
- For parents: growing confidence, a real understanding of their child's behaviour, communication and emotional needs, and clearer boundaries at home.
- For children: growing capability, independence and a calm, secure start to nursery and school life.
- For nurseries and schools: stronger relationships with families, a genuine community, and families who experience the setting long before formal enrolment.
"I am a Boomerang Child. I can share. I can walk in a line. I can sit in a circle. I can answer questions. I can wave goodbye. And I learned all of this alongside Mummy or Daddy, while having fun, playing and smiling."
A Community for the School, and a Campaign That Keeps the Conversation Going
When I run a Boomerang programme within a school or nursery, I don't simply arrive and teach the classes. The setting becomes part of an ongoing Happy Families marketing campaign. Depending on the partnership, this can include:
- Regular coverage on my Instagram, with reels filmed around the programme, the school and its educational approach
- Ongoing stories and social media content
- Dedicated email marketing to the Happy Families parent community
- Features and editorial content, including a dedicated digital magazine created around the school, the programme and its families
- Parent education content that naturally highlights the school's expertise, environment and provision
- Ongoing conversations about the setting, rather than a single launch post
The purpose is continuity and familiarity. Parents hear about the school or nursery again and again, see what happens there, and come to understand the people and the philosophy behind it.
Experience + trust = admissions.
Reigniting "The Missing Years", 0 to 3
There is an enormous opportunity to engage families in the years before formal schooling, particularly from birth to three.
Boomerang brings those families into the school or nursery community early. It gives parents a reason to walk through the doors, meet educators, experience the environment and understand what high-quality early-years provision can offer their child.
Rather than waiting until parents begin searching for FS1 or school places, the relationship can begin much earlier. Boomerang helps schools and nurseries become part of a family's story before the traditional enrolment conversation has even started.
Where Boomerang Has Run
I have run Boomerang successfully with Safa British School, Brighton College, Victory Heights and BC Academy.
Over the years I have also partnered with many of the UAE's leading schools and educational organisations, including Blossom Nursery Group, Jumeirah International Nurseries, Arbor School, Clarion School, Kids First Group and Early Explorers in Sharjah, delivering parent education programmes, family engagement initiatives and community events.
I bring 35+ years of experience in teaching, school leadership, nursery transformation and family support. I am trained in Magda Gerber's RIEĀ® approach, which underpins many of Boomerang's principles, and I am a Triple P Positive Parenting Practitioner. In 2026 I was honoured with the Most Loved Parenting Consultant award at the Mother, Baby & Child Awards.
What Mums Say
Two mums who came along to my Boomerang Parent and Child sessions talk about my approach to early childhood.
What Families Say About Boomerang
"Today's class was super. Every time I come to your wonderful events and classes, I walk away from you and learn something new to help me in the motherhood journey. Knowledge is key."
Madison, Boomerang mum
"Tia had so much fun. I noticed she takes some time at the start when there are a lot of unfamiliar faces; she stays next to me. Then I encourage her bit by bit to explore and be on her own, and it works. I learned that I should respect this and give her her time till she is comfortable. Thanks for the beautiful morning."
Yasmine, Boomerang mum
"Thank you so much for today, Lisa! Your sessions are so informative and fun, but also not overstimulating at all."
Steph, Boomerang mum
"Your sessions are always great and insightful. Ali thoroughly enjoys those sessions and takes home a part of it and practises."
Sarah, Boomerang mum
"Oscar has now started nursery. Thank you for all the events you have put on that have supported myself and Oscar through this transition. You have given me the confidence to do this. We have loved attending."
