My story
Hi, I'm Principal Lisa

I've been working alongside children and families since I was a teenager. In homes, nurseries, schools and communities, helping families has never really felt like simply a job to me. It has always been my purpose.
That's more than 35 years of supporting children and families.
Over the years, I've been a nursery principal, an early years educator, a family adviser, a parenting consultant and, perhaps most importantly, someone families know they can turn to when they need practical help, reassurance or simply somebody in their corner.
After ill health meant I had to step away from my role as a principal, Happy Families became an even bigger part of my life.
I still have difficult days. I still have to work around my health. But I am determined that it won't stop me doing the work I love, and there is something rather wonderful about having thousands of families travelling alongside me as I do it.
Why I started it
Happy Families Is Much More Than Parenting Advice
I wanted to create the kind of community I would have loved to have around me when my own children were small.
- A place where you can ask a question without feeling silly.
- A place where you can learn something without constantly being sold something.
- A place where children are celebrated for who they are, and parents are supported rather than judged.
- And a place where families actually get together.
That means free community events, free nursery classes, talks, workshops, family experiences, expert advice, giveaways, resources and opportunities for children to learn, play and try something new.
Some of our events are little and intimate. Others are enormous. One recent Happy Families event welcomed more than 1,000 people, and we have even bigger ideas ahead.
What I stand for
What Matters to Me
I believe children are capable.
I believe parents deserve information without judgement.
I believe the early years matter enormously, but they don't need to be perfect.
And I believe raising children was never supposed to be something we did entirely alone.
That is what Happy Families is really about: bringing families, educators, experts and our wider community together to make childhood, and family life, just a little bit better.
I'd love you to be part of it.
