Hummus and Avocado Roll-Up Wheels

Lunch or lunchbox ยท Serves 2 little ones ยท 10 minutes, no cooking
Some days you just need lunch to happen. Fast.
These little wheels are my go-to. No oven, no hob, and they look so pretty in a lunchbox. Little ones love picking them up and unrolling them (yes, really, ha ha). Let them. It's all exploring.
You Will Need
- 2 soft wholemeal tortilla wraps
- 4 tablespoons hummus (shop-bought is absolutely fine)
- 1โ2 ripe avocado
- A squeeze of lemon
- 1 small carrot, finely grated
- A small handful of baby spinach, finely shredded
- 30 g grated cheddar or crumbled feta (optional)
On the side: a few fruit pieces on a short blunt stick or just in a little pot, like melon, banana and strawberry.
Let's Make It
- Mash the avocado with the lemon in a small bowl.
- Lay a wrap flat. Spread it with half the hummus, right to the edges.
- Spread half the avocado over the top.
- Scatter over the carrot, spinach and cheese, leaving a 2 cm gap at the far edge.
- Roll it up tightly, away from you. The hummus at the end helps it stick.
- Slice into 2 to 3 cm wheels with a sharp knife.
- Repeat with the second wrap.
For a lunchbox: pack them snugly side by side so they don't unroll, and add a little ice pack. The avocado is best eaten the same day.
Little Hands Can Help ๐
- Mash the avocado with a fork. Squishy and satisfying.
- Spread the hummus with a spoon or a blunt butter knife.
- Sprinkle on the carrot "confetti".
- Do the rolling together, your hands over theirs.
Safety Note for Under-3s โ ๏ธ
- Grate the carrot finely. Raw carrot chunks are hard and a choking risk.
- For under-2s, flatten the wrap slices a little or cut them into thin strips, as soft bread can clump in the mouth.
- Fruit sticks are for supervised eating only. Take the stick away for under-3s and offer the fruit pieces cut small.
- Hummus contains sesame (tahini), a common allergen. Only offer it once your child has had sesame safely.
