No-Bake Date and Oat Energy Bites
Nov 04, 2026
Sweet treat ยท Makes about 16 bites ยท 15 minutes, no oven
We are so lucky with our dates here in the UAE.
Soft, sticky, naturally sweet. They're the secret to these little bites, which taste like a treat and keep busy little bodies going between nursery and the park.
No baking. Just a food processor and some very happy rollers.
You Will Need
- 150 g soft pitted dates (Medjool or Khalas)
- 80 g rolled oats
- 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter, sunflower seed butter or tahini
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons desiccated coconut, plus extra for rolling
- 1 to 2 tablespoons warm water
Let's Make It
- If your dates feel firm, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes, then drain.
- Blitz the oats in a food processor until they look like rough flour.
- Add the dates, nut or seed butter, cocoa and coconut. Blitz until it all clumps together into a ball.
- Too dry? Add warm water, a teaspoon at a time.
- Roll into small balls, about a heaped teaspoon each.
- Roll them in a little extra coconut.
- Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up.
Keep them: 5 days in a sealed box in the fridge, or 2 months in the freezer.
Little Hands Can Help ๐
- Pour the oats into the processor. You do the button.
- Roll the bites between their palms. Big, small, flat. All perfect!
- Roll them in coconut "snow".
- Count them into the box together.
Safety Note for Under-3s โ ๏ธ
- Dates are sticky and round balls can be a choking risk. For under-3s, make the bites small and press them flat into little discs, or offer a thin piece instead of a whole ball.
- Always blitz the dates fully. Never offer whole dates to under-3s.
- These are a "sometimes" treat for under-2s because they're naturally very sweet.
- Peanut butter and tahini are common allergens. Sunflower seed butter is a good swap for nut-free nurseries and schools (check your setting's rules).
